Origins and History of Tanobe no Tenasai

Tanobe no Tenasai is a traditional event said to date back to the early Edo period.

A document from Genroku 10 (1697) states that calamities would follow if the festival were discontinued, showing how long it has been connected to local prayers.

The Tendana is a two-story carved festival float built during the Bunkyu era, and hadaka-momi is also said to be an event passed down since the Edo period.

Today, young men carry on the tradition in changing forms, for example by taking part in shorts.
