Origins and History of Fukuroi Festival
The history of the Fukuroi Festival dates back to the Edo period.
Records show that in Tenpo 13, a float with a high-railing design, six pillars, and a fully lacquered finish was paraded through Kawai Village. This is considered the oldest confirmed record of a float procession in Fukuroi.
From the Meiji period onward, the number of neighborhoods pulling floats increased as neighborhoods were subdivided, eventually expanding to the 15 participating neighborhoods of today.
