Origins and History of Yuda Onsen White Fox Festival

The Yuda Onsen White Fox Festival is linked to the legend of the hot springs’ discovery: a white fox was said to have healed its wounds in a pond on the grounds of a temple at the foot of Mount Gongen.

The festival began in 1949, led mainly by officers of the Yuda Onsen Ryokan Association at the time, as an expression of gratitude for the hot springs.

It was originally held over 3 days, and the procession started at Yasaka Shrine in Tatekoji; today, the festival is centered around the streets of Yuda Onsen.
