Origins and History of Tsunoyama Kagura

Tsunoyama Koshiki Kagura is said to have a history of more than 1000 years.

Another source says it began in Engi 13 (913) and that shrine priests have continued to sing and dance it since the time they welcomed Mishima Shrine from Iyo and enshrined it as a guardian deity.

It is now passed down by a preservation society and has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
