Origins and History of Takachiho Kagura
The night kagura that forms the foundation of Takachiho Kagura is a ritual-object kagura tradition passed down in villages throughout Takachiho Town.
It is also called “night kagura” because a sacred space and a dance area are set up in a room of a private home, where the dances continue from sunset until the following morning.
In 1970, it was selected as an intangible folk cultural property for which measures such as documentation should be undertaken, according to the cultural properties database.
