Origins and History of Otori Danjiri Festival
According to one account, the Otori Danjiri Festival is said to have begun about 400 years ago, but its origins have not been established due to the lack of clear historical documents or artifacts from that time.
The practice of attaching ropes to danjiri and pulling them has been linked to Kyoto’s Gion Festival.
Most danjiri are Sakai-style upper danjiri, though in recent years Kishiwada-style lower danjiri and hybrid styles incorporating features of both have also appeared.
