About Nanbu Town Peony Festival
The Nanbu Town Peony Festival is an event where visitors can enjoy peonies at Hase Peony Garden, on the mid-slopes of the Mount Nakui Prefectural Natural Park.
The garden is planted with around 130 varieties and 8,000 peonies, which bloom in a range of colors.
The garden was developed by Nanbu Town as part of its community-building efforts, starting after a group of Keikoin parishioners received peony seedlings from Hasedera Temple in Sakurai, Nara Prefecture.
Festival highlights
The highlight is the view at Hase Peony Garden, where 130 varieties and 8,000 peonies bloom all at once.
Large, vivid flowers bloom in a range of colors, and visitors can also enjoy spring flowers such as azaleas, wisteria, and moss phlox, in addition to peonies.
In Heisei 13, the garden was selected for the Ministry of the Environment’s “100 Fragrant Landscapes of Japan,” and its appeal lies in its fragrance as well as the beauty of its flowers.
