About Iwafune Grand Festival

The Iwafune Grand Festival is the annual grand festival held at Iwafune Shrine in the Iwafune area of Murakami City.

It is said to originate from a legend that the enshrined deity arrived here in a “stone boat,” and is regarded as an autumn festival expressing gratitude for the blessings of the sea and mountains and for the community’s livelihoods.

The festival centers on 9 dashi and has been designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Niigata Prefecture.
