Origins and History of Asaka Kunitsuko Shrine Autumn Grand Festival

Although the festival’s origins are unclear, it is said to have been held as early as the mid-Edo period.

Dashi began appearing in 1738, followed by mikoshi in 1765. In 1824, a large stage-equipped float was built to celebrate the town’s promotion to a post town.

The festival resumed after being suspended during wartime, and in 1952 the first taikodai-style dashi, the predecessor of the current form, was completed.
