This traditional event fills the town center of Fukuoka-machi, Takaoka City, with works creatively made from vegetables, fruit, and flowers.

About Tsukurimon Festival

The Tsukurimon Festival is an event with a tradition spanning more than 300 years, passed down throughout the town center of Fukuoka-machi, Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture.

A custom of offering autumn harvest produce at the Jizo Festival developed into three-dimensional works made from vegetables, fruit, flowers, and other materials.

Works created in gratitude for a bountiful harvest are displayed around town, sharing the culture of local life and creativity.

Festival highlights

The main highlight is the “tsukurimon”—works made by transforming harvested vegetables, fruit, flowers, and natural materials into something else.

Topical figures, events, and anime characters are among the subjects, brought to life in humorous works that reflect the times, using simple materials.

From small pieces to large works over 5 or 6 meters tall, you can compare the different styles on display around town.

Origins and History of Tsukurimon Festival

The Tsukurimon Festival began as a custom of offering harvested vegetables and other produce at the Jizo Festival. It later developed into an event where crafted figures were displayed at the festival.

Over time, works made from vegetables, fruit, flowers, and other materials became the festival’s main attraction, evolving into the event seen today.

In addition to neighborhood associations and women’s groups, companies, schools, and university students now also contribute works.
