The first Teganuma Fireworks Festival was held in 1987.

The first event was held to commemorate 100 years of flood control on the Tone River. Initially, it was jointly organized by 2 cities and 1 town around Lake Teganuma, and was held every year in August, with the number of fireworks gradually increasing.

After Shonan Town was incorporated into Kashiwa City in 2005, the festival has been held jointly by the 2 cities of Kashiwa and Abiko.

The event has been canceled in some years due to social circumstances and other factors.
