Danjiri in Takaishi are said to have been pulled for about 400 years.
There was a period during the war when the danjiri were given up, and for a time after the war, fewer danjiri took part.
The festival is said to have revived after a parade organized by the city in 1983 prompted districts to make flower floats and purchase danjiri.
In 2011, Habushita joined the Takaishi Union, contributing to the festival’s current scale and popularity.
