Origins and History of Saito Kofun Festival

The festival is said to have its roots in the Sanryo Festival and Goryo Festival, which date back to the Muromachi period.

Another account traces its origins back to the Tenson Korin Festival and the Sanryo Festival at Miyake Shrine, between the Saitobaru Plateau and the city center.

The festival began taking its current form toward the end of the Showa era and has continued as an event connecting the kofun with local beliefs and traditional performing arts.
