Origins and History of Yassa Festival

The origins of the Yassa Festival are said to date back to 1567, when people in the castle town danced to celebrate Kobayakawa Takakage building Mihara Castle.

The first edition of the festival in its current form was held in 1976.

Before that, the fireworks display, Yassa Odori, and the Summer Festival Children’s Yassa were organized separately by different groups.
