The Kyoto Student Festival is organized around student initiative, bringing together Kyoto’s universities, local communities, government bodies, and others. Through a variety of events, including original dances, music, and a traditional fair, it connects student activities with the lively atmosphere of Kyoto.

About Kyoto Student Festival

The Kyoto Student Festival is a student-led event, planned and run by students with support from Kyoto’s universities, the business community, local communities, and government.

It has been held since fiscal year Heisei 15 as an initiative to revitalize Kyoto.

A key feature is the way diverse groups, particularly in Kyoto, work together to connect student activities with the local community.

Origins and History of Kyoto Student Festival

The Kyoto Student Festival began in 2003 and has been run by a student-led organizing committee in partnership with government, the business community, universities, and local communities.

The student music competition and Grand Finale have been held since the 1st edition, while the dance contest and traditional fair have been recurring events since the 3rd edition.

Work on the original dance “Kyoen Sodefure!” began with the idea of moving “from an event to a festival” for the 3rd edition, and its official name was decided in 2005.
