Origins and History of Futami Salmon Festival
This event carries on the tradition of the Abalone Village Festival, which ran for more than 30 years.
Because abalone farming in the sea could no longer continue for various reasons, the festival featured both abalone and Futami Salmon in 2025, then shifted to focusing on Futami Salmon from 2026.
The name has also changed from “Abalone Village Festival” to “Futami Salmon Festival.”
As the local fishing industry changes, the festival continues to carry on the tradition of sharing the bounty of the sea.
