The Fukushima Fireworks Festival was revived in 1979 by the Fukushima Junior Chamber, with the aim of creating a grand event that would become a Fukushima specialty and a place for residents to relax.
It was later run by the Fukushima Festival Executive Committee with support from the city hall, chamber of commerce, and other organizations.
Regular events were canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, and the festival returned in 2022 after a 3-year hiatus.
