Origins and History of Tsuyama Festival

The Tokumori Shrine festival is said to have begun shortly after Tadamasa Mori, the first lord of the Tsuyama Domain, rebuilt the shrine buildings in Keichō 9 (1604), and it has a long history.

During the Edo period, each neighborhood brought out parade floats, and it became customary for them to take part in the Osumi Shrine festival as well.

The danjiri changed from being carried to being pulled on wheeled carts, but efforts to pass on the tradition continue.
