Origins and History of Katsuyama’s Hina Festival
Katsuyama’s Hina Festival began following an exhibition of tsuchi-bina dolls held at Gozenshu Tsujimoto Honten in 1998.
After someone suggested that Katsuyama’s streets would suit a hina festival, and visitors came to an exhibition, an organizing committee was formed and the first event was held in March 1999.
It began with displays at 35 homes and grew into an effort by local residents to display hina dolls in their own homes.
