Origins and History of Suito Festival (Osaka City)

The Suito Festival began in the summer of Showa 21 (1946).

The festival originated as an event organized by the Osaka Nichi Nichi Shimbun near Toyosato Bridge on the banks of the Yodo River, with hopes for the reconstruction of Osaka, which had been reduced to scorched earth by wartime air raids.

Since Heisei 14 (2002), it has been held jointly with the Tenjin Festival Dedication Fireworks. In 2015, fireworks were launched near the former venue in an effort to revive the event.
