Origins and History of Senshu YOSAKOI Ee Janai ka Festival
The festival began against the backdrop of efforts to bring excitement and energy back to Senshu, after local fireworks displays and citizens’ festivals were canceled one after another.
At the initiative of the Senshu Sorya Odoriko-tai dance team, an organizing committee was formed, and the first festival was held on October 17, 2004.
The name comes from the uplifting power of the “Ee ja nai ka” dance, which is said to have spread during the Meiji Restoration reforms as people called for a better world.
An eve-of-festival event was added in 2012, broadening the festival’s format.
