About Okaya Taiko Festival

The Okaya Taiko Festival is a community festival held every August in Okaya City, Nagano Prefecture.

Centered on Okaya Taiko, the festival features performances by Japanese taiko teams, taiko mikoshi, street dance processions, and downtown parades.

Festival highlights

The biggest highlight is the joint performance, when numerous taiko drums are played together.

Taiko teams from inside and outside the city gather, and the official website describes it as “Japan’s best joint performance by 300 people.”

In addition to taiko performances, visitors can enjoy MINAKOI Wassaka dances, performances at the Fureai Plaza, and a downtown parade featuring mikoshi and nagamochi.

These events, each with its own sounds and movements, bring the 2-day festival to life.
