Origins and History of Oiden Festival (Toyokawa City)

Oiden Festival was created in 1989 (Heisei 1) by combining three events held in Toyokawa City: a commercial festival, an agricultural festival, and a greening festival.

Along with the Toyokawa Festival, it is regarded as one of Toyokawa City’s civic festivals.

In 2000, “Yosakoi IN Oiden Festival,” incorporating Kochi’s Yosakoi Festival, began, and since 2003 the “Citizens’ Odoromai Contest” has also been held for local residents.

The name is said to be a play on the Mikawa dialect phrase “oiden sai” and the word “festival.”
