Origins and History of Mutsumi Yuki Saida Rice Planting Festival

The festival originated with the Daijōsai enthronement ceremony of Emperor Taisho in 1915.

Nakajima in Mutsumi Village was selected as the Yuki Saida. During rice planting, young women and cultivators worked to the rhythm of drums and rice-planting songs, followed by a rice-planting dance.

The event resumed after the war years, and in 1981 its date was set as the 1st Sunday of June. It continues to be passed down, primarily by the preservation society.
