Dance and parades are at the festival’s heart, alongside children’s art displays, music stages, and introductions to agricultural products and local tourist goods, with events taking place in the city center and at Toyohashi Park.
The festival connects the history of “Ee ja nai ka,” which began in Yoshida-juku—today’s Toyohashi City—at the end of the Edo period with contemporary events in the city.

Origins and History of Toyohashi Festival
The Toyohashi Festival began as a trade fair held in 1953 (Showa 28) in the shopping streets of central Toyohashi City.
The following year, in 1954, it became the “Toyohashi Festival,” with the aim of involving the entire community.
Beginning with the 60th festival in 2014, it was renamed the “Ee ja nai ka Toyohashi Festival,” and events such as the Grand Dance and parade have continued to develop.
“Ee ja nai ka,” which is connected to the festival’s guiding spirit, is said to have begun in Yoshida-juku in 1867.
