Hand-held fireworks are a traditional form of fireworks originating in the Mikawa region. The performers hold the tubes as they are set off, standing amid flames and showers of sparks.
Beginning in 1996 as part of the 90th-anniversary celebration of Toyohashi becoming a city, the event has introduced Toyohashi’s traditional culture as a tourism resource.
In 2026, the event will be held for the 31st time.

Festival highlights
The main highlight is the simultaneous launching of multiple hand-held fireworks.
The columns of flame can reach 10 meters high. Visitors can watch performers standing amid the falling sparks.
In addition to hand-held fireworks, the program includes rope fireworks, in which fireworks travel along a rope; large fireworks mounted on platforms; and aerial fireworks.
One of its distinctive features is the chance to see traditional hand-held fireworks and a variety of set-piece fireworks in one program.
