Origins and History of Mikuni Fireworks Festival
Fireworks displays at Mikuni Beach are said to have been held before the war, and were apparently already taking place in 1932.
They were suspended as the war situation worsened, but a local fireworks display resumed in 1947, after the war.
For safety reasons, the event was suspended from 1968 due to the construction of oil storage tanks near the venue. After the tanks were removed, it returned in 1981 in its current form, organized by an executive committee.
