Origins and History of Kasama Himatsuri

Kasama Himatsuri began when young ceramic artists who came to prominence in the 1970s wanted to hold a free-spirited, welcoming festival organized by the makers themselves.

In 1982, 415 members met repeatedly and collected contributions, and 36 participants held the first festival on an open lot in the Arts Village.

The event then grew in scale while its duration, venue, and organizing structure changed; in 1994, the organizing role was transferred to the Kasama Ware Cooperative Association.
