Origins and History of Fussa Tanabata Festival
Fussa Tanabata Festival began in 1951 (Showa 26) July, inspired by Sendai Tanabata and with the aim of promoting the shopping district.
The following year, businesses from throughout Fussa Town took part, and the bamboo decoration contest also began.
Fussa’s own wall decorations appeared in 1956, and a parade was introduced in 1968, as the festival developed into an event involving local businesses and residents.
