Origins and History of Wadayama Jizo Festival
The Wadayama Jizo Festival is said to have begun when six Jizo statues were enshrined in town to soothe the souls of children who died in floods of the Maruyama River during the Muromachi period.
The six Jizo statues were entrusted to Enryuji, founded in 1653, and came to be known as the Nanatoko Jizo.
Since 2005, a stamp rally has been held as an effort to pass traditional culture on to future generations.
