Origins and History of Yasugi Tsukinowa Festival
The Tsukinowa Festival is rooted in the story of Omi no Inoshimaro, which appears in the Izumo Fudoki.
It is said that Inoshimaro, whose daughter was killed by a giant crocodile, avenged her death and made a tsukinowa (moon ring) to comfort her spirit.
The Tsukinowa ritual inspired by this story has been passed down as the centerpiece of today’s festival.
