Origins and History of Tsuruga Festival

The dashi events at the Tsuruga Festival are said to date back to the late Muromachi period.

Each festival, the dashi are assembled from unfinished timber, decorated with ornamental hangings, and preserve an old style in which pine is an important symbol.

Records show that the Yoiyama events flourished during the Edo period, and they preserve traditions of distinctive festival music and a variety of nerimono floats.

In 2025, the dashi and Yoiyama events were designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Tsuruga City.
