The Osu Daido Chonin Festival is a community festival for the people, organized by the people and held every October in the Osu district of Naka Ward, Nagoya.

In 1978, local residents started the festival in an effort to bring back the bustle Osu had once enjoyed.

The festival continues to feature street performances and events that make use of the shopping district’s history and character.

The Osu Daido Chonin Festival began with the first event held on October 14, 1978 and 15, following the 1975 event “Festival of the People: Action Osu.”

Its origins lie in efforts to bring people back to Osu, which was at risk of losing its vibrancy due to urban planning.

The festival received the Nagoya Urban Landscape Award in 1997 and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2007.
