Rotating dashi floats, tsukurimon displays depicting stories with vegetables, and a sacred tree touring the district. This is a traditional autumn festival with three distinctive features passed down in Nukata, Yakuno-cho, Fukuchiyama City.

About Nukata Dashi Festival (Autumn Festival at Nukata Ichinomiya Shrine)

The Nukata Dashi Festival is the autumn festival of Ichinomiya Shrine, the guardian shrine of the Nukata district in Yakuno-cho, Fukuchiyama City.

The festival consists of three events: dashi floats with rotating upper tiers, tsukurimon displays depicting stories with vegetables and nuts, and a procession of the sacred tree.

This traditional event, preserved and passed down by local (parishioners), is registered as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Kyoto Prefecture.

Festival highlights

The main highlight is the sight of two-tiered dashi floats proceeding through the streets as their upper tiers rotate.

For the shita-dashi displays, autumn’s bounty—including vegetables and nuts—is used to create three-dimensional scenes from folktales and legends.

During the main festival, a group carrying a sacred tree about 3.6 meters long makes its way through the district, with lively events continuing until it returns to the shrine at night.

What to expect

During the Yoimiya eve, dashi floats, floats, and children’s tour the town, and the upper tier of a dashi rotates.

On the morning of the Honmiya main festival, there are float processions and a performance along the station-front street, and the shita-dashi displays are also open to the public.

In the afternoon, a sacred-tree ceremony and procession take place. The group returns to the shrine late at night and concludes with the ritual of transferring the deity.

How to take part

In 2026, the shita-dashi (tsukurimon displays) are open to the public, and visitors can watch the dashi and taiko floats and the sacred-tree procession.

We recommend respecting the local event and watching from a place where you will not obstruct the procession or ceremonies.

In 2026, you can view the shita-dashi displays and dashi and taiko float processions without any listed application procedure or call for participants.

The shita-dashi displays are open from noon to 8 p.m. on the Yoimiya eve and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the Honmiya main festival day.

You can choose which events to visit based on their times, such as the dashi float assembly or the sacred-tree procession.

Tips for your visit

The Yoimiya dashi and taiko float procession runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., while the Honmiya sacred-tree procession continues from 1:30 p.m. into the evening, so it is a good idea to arrive early for the events you want to see.

Since the Yoimiya eve involves watching events at night, it can get cold at night in Yakuno in October, so bring a jacket.

Near processions and religious ceremonies, follow the instructions of staff and local residents, and watch from a place where you will not obstruct traffic or the event.
