The fireworks festival in Nagano City began as a way to boost business during Ebisu-ko. Today, it sends large-shell fireworks and music-synchronized displays into the late-autumn night sky.

About Nagano Ebisu-ko Fireworks Festival

The Nagano Ebisu-ko Fireworks Festival is held to coincide with Ebisu-ko at Nishinomiya Shrine in Iwaishicho, Nagano City.

It began in 1899 as the “Nagano City Fireworks Festival,” with hopes for the growth of the city’s commerce and industry.

Today, it is a rare November fireworks festival nationwide and an event that brings color to Nagano in late autumn.

Festival highlights

Highlights include large-shell fireworks filling the crisp, clear late-autumn sky and music-synchronized starmines choreographed to music.

The fireworks are launched from the banks of the Saigawa River and can be enjoyed up close from the viewing area.

In 2026, a drone show is also scheduled for 5:30 p.m., in addition to the fireworks.

How to take part

Members of the public can attend and enjoy the fireworks as spectators.

The event organizers are recruiting volunteers in 2026 to help set up seating in the paid viewing areas and manage the zones on the day.

Attending as a spectator and helping with event operations involve different participation procedures, so registration is required to volunteer.

General viewing is free. Tickets must be purchased to use the paid seating area.

Paid seats for 2026 will be sold on the Ticket Pia website and through multi-copy machines at Seven-Eleven stores.

Tickets will not be sold by phone or at a ticket counter, and cannot be canceled or changed after purchase.

Origins and History of Nagano Ebisu-ko Fireworks Festival

The festival began in 1899 with 45 founders who hoped to promote the growth of Nagano City’s commerce and industry.

The tradition of setting off fireworks to boost business during Ebisu-ko at Nishinomiya Shrine led to the festival as it is today.

Since 1992, it has also hosted the National 10-Go New Fireworks Contest, developing into a competition that tests not only the size of the large shells but also the skill of the fireworks makers.
