Origins and History of Hikari to Monogatari
“Hikari to Monogatari” is a project launched to share the region’s appeal across Japan and help revitalize the area while creating new tourism and cultural experiences.
With its first event in 2026 as the first step, it aims to grow into an ongoing cultural and tourism attraction in collaboration with government, businesses, and local organizations.
It takes inspiration from the bonfires passed down through the cormorant-fishing tradition on the Nagara River, and from the fire culture of festivals said to have inspired Halloween.
