About Dorome Festival

The Dorome Festival is held every April in Akaoka Town, Konan City, Kochi Prefecture. It is a festival associated with the bounty of the sea and local sake culture.

Festival highlights

The main highlight is the Big Cup Drinking Contest, where men and women compete to see who can drink a large cup of local sake the fastest and most impressively.

What to expect

According to the 2026 information, the morning program was set to include registration for the Big Cup Drinking Contest, a brass band performance, candy distribution, and the Dorome Dance.

This was to be followed by greetings from the organizing committee and guests, a fishing boat parade, and kabuki performances, with the Big Cup Drinking Contest and judging results scheduled for the afternoon.

Contestants were screened after registration, and those selected were required to undergo a medical checkup.

The festival was ultimately canceled.

How to take part

According to the 2026 information, admission was free for visitors attending events at the venue.

The Big Cup Drinking Contest is not open to anyone who wishes to join. Applicants must apply themselves, be selected by the organizing committee, and undergo a medical checkup by a doctor.

Paid tickets were required to enjoy food and drinks in the tent seating area, but the 2026 festival itself was canceled.

Those wishing to enter the large-cup drinking competition were instructed to register in person at the event headquarters beside the stage between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on the day.

There are 25 places in total for men and women; if there are more applicants than places, the organizing committee will select participants, who will then undergo a health check by a doctor.

The participation fee is ¥3,000 per person, but the 2026 competition was not held because the festival was canceled.
