About Togane Yassa Festival

The Togane Yassa Festival is a community-participation festival that brings color to summer in Togane.

On streets such as Chuo Koen-dori by the east exit of Togane Station, dance groups parade through the streets to the chant “Yassa, yassa.”

Along with the dancing, visitors can enjoy stage events, fireworks, and food stalls, as local people take center stage in creating a lively summer atmosphere.

Festival highlights

The highlight is Yassa Odori, performed by dance groups known as ren, which bring together participants from local districts, organizations, and businesses.

Each dance group performs its own distinctive routines, making its way along Chuo Koen-dori in time with the chants and dancing.

Fireworks light up the sky toward the end of the festival, bringing color to a quintessentially Togane summer day alongside stage events and food stalls.

Origins and History of Togane Yassa Festival

The Togane Yassa Festival began in 1977, sparked by a proposal from the Togane Junior Chamber to create a new community festival.

The festival was revamped as the YASSA Festival in 2012, and was canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in 2020.

After a substitute event in 2022, the festival returned in 2023 as the “Yassa Togane Festival.”
