Origins and History of Suigo Omigawa Fireworks Festival
From around the middle of the Meiji era, fireworks were launched in the Omigawa area as commemorative events celebrating towns and villages and wishing for their development.
The present-day festival began in 1908 (Meiji 41) August, with donations led by shop owners in the former town of Omigawa, as a way to pray for its development as a prosperous water-transport hub.
It is now held every year on August 1, to coincide with the opening of the Tone River boating season.
