Origins and History of Ibaraki Matsuri

Ibaraki Matsuri began in 1997, when “Midsummer Festival: Furusato Fureai Matsuri,” held until 1996, was merged with and revamped alongside the autumn “Ibaraki Town Commerce and Industry Festival.”

It was originally held twice a year, in summer and autumn, but since 2000 it has been held only in autumn.

The fireworks finale returned in 2012 and has become one of the festival’s defining features.

The 2026 event information is available on the Ibaraki Town government website.
