About Ohara Hadaka Festival

The Ohara Hadaka Festival is a traditional autumn festival celebrated by the whole community and passed down in the Ohara district of Isumi City.

Events centered on mikoshi continue throughout the festival, including Shiobumi, when more than 10 mikoshi enter the sea, a procession along the shopping street, and the Daibetsurei ceremony at Ohara Elementary School.

The people of the Ohara district cherish and preserve the festival, where the bearers’ spirited strength exists alongside the poignancy of bidding farewell at the festival’s close.

Festival highlights

The biggest highlight is Shiobumi, held on the first day at Ohara Beach.

More than 10 mikoshi enter the sea at once, jostling as they race through the water and are lifted up by their bearers.

Another major highlight is the Daibetsurei ceremony. At dusk, the mikoshi gather at Ohara Elementary School and are raised high at the signal of fireworks as bearers bid farewell with festival songs.
