Origins and History of Fukuchiyama Dokkoise Festival

The Fukuchiyama Dance is said to have originated around the 16th century, when laborers repairing Fukuchiyama Castle under Akechi Mitsuhide called out “dokkoise” as they carried stone and lumber.

Since then, it has been a traditional culture cherished in Fukuchiyama City for more than 400 years.

At the festival, local residents carry on the dance by forming a circle.
