Origins and History of Nagoya Festival

The first Nagoya Festival was held in 1955 under the name “Nagoya Commerce and Industry Festival.”

Until before the war, the annual festival at Nagoya Toshogu Shrine was also called the “Nagoya Festival,” and the dashi procession held at today’s Nagoya Festival is said to carry on that tradition.

Era-specific attractions such as flower-decorated trams and buses were added over the years, and the festival has evolved into its present form, combining parades with events at the venues.

The official Nagoya Festival website provides information about the 2026 dates, venue events, schedules at each venue, and arrangements for rainy weather.
